You can call it a “social media vacation,” a “scroll-free sabbatical,” an “online oasis,” a “tech timeout,” or a “cyber siesta,” depending on how you roll. There’s just too much digital noise out there and you need time to unplug, tune into your own frequency, and put your focus elsewhere.

It seems that every time I’m motivated to run this as a live program, there’s something big going on in the world.

There’s always something, always a reason.

I mention “social media” since that’s where the black hole of unproductivity often lurks. But hey, if you’re not glued to socials, maybe you’re knee-deep in news or lost in the realms of gaming.

Q. Do I need to go offline completely?

A. Nope! This 7-day escapade is as extreme as you want it to be. Depending on your digital habits – cutting down could supercharge your productivity!

Q. “If you are still on Slack and email, what does the detox comprise of?”

A. It consists of acquiring mindfulness about our digital habits, pausing before picking up a device or visiting a web page, learning intentional use, and being guided through a week of reduced screen time. The only way to eliminate email use for a week is to go off-grid. I chose Slack because I wanted to provide community support, and a Facebook group—which is the current standard for group programs—would be antithetical to this program. The group component is completely optional.
