"To tell a person who has ADD to try harder is about as helpful as telling someone who is nearsighted to squint harder."

“To tell a person who has ADD to try harder is about as helpful as telling someone who is nearsighted to squint harder.” ― Edward M. Hallowell, Delivered from Distraction.

If you have ADHD symptoms ― whether officially diagnosed or not ― there are things you can do to feel more in control of your life. Some of those actions are quick wins, some are ongoing.

You might be trying as hard as you can, or you might not be. Don’t be afraid to push yourself out of your comfort zone but if you’re trying as hard as you can and others don’t see that or tell you to try harder, ignore them. They don’t understand you or your brain.

Don’t use ADHD as an excuse to not try at all, but don’t think that you need to try to be something you’re not. To tell a person who has ADD to try harder is also about as helpful as telling them to turn into a bird.

Embrace who you are.
